Astraea enjoying her new life

Life After Racing: Astraea

Tuesday 20 July 2021

Astraea ran 23 times for Mick Easterby, winning once. But what a win, breaking the track record at Newcastle eased down!

Soon after her record-shattering victory Astraea fell out of love with racing. She must have thought her job was done and she fancied a new start.

Astraea's racing owner was our wonderful and much missed friend, the late Mrs Linda Folwell. Linda loved her horses and always made sure they were found good homes, as with the rest of the horses from our yard. Astraea was a favourite of Linda's and watching Astraea break the Newcastle track record carrying her colours was a wonderful moment in her career as a racehorse owner.

Astraea is now owned by Tori Owens who tells her story.

"Astraea is so easy to have around and a great nanny to the youngsters, and absolutely adores my 4 year old son!"

"She can be a madam at times but is very much a part of the family and she has a home for life with me."

"So reliable to hack out, and we have travelled many miles together she is showing so much potential and gives everything a go. Hopefully she will be a lovely all rounder."

"She has recently been scanned in foal to a beautiful warmblood stallion and enjoying some time out so fingers crossed all goes well for an Astraea baby in April 2022."

"I thought you may like an update after that awful Panorama show. She really does have a loving home here and wants for nothing. I’m so happy to say that I have found my dream horse in her."
